My first book, Ants in My Pants, was published in 2004 by Scholastic Press as a Rookie Reader for Pre-K through Grade 2 children.
The text is developmentally appropriate for readers working in a wide range of readiness levels. Designed to be read aloud to the youngest readers, Ants in My Pants can also be self-read by children with an independent reading vocabulary.
When I started writing Ants in My Pants, I'd heard that creativity could be increased through movement. I wanted to give it a try. Since I liked to walk around my neighborhood for exercise, I decided to compose Ants in My Pants as I walked. As soon as I got home each day, I wrote my new ideas down on paper. I kept revising the story as the days progressed, and it took several weeks to finish the manuscript. When I thought it was done, I sent it to my editor, who added her own suggestions. After a few more revisions, everyone was happy. The manuscript was finally finished and sent to Steve Cox, who became the illustrator.

Believe it or not, I actually was engaged in a major ant battle within my home while I wrote the book. You could say those little critters were my inspiration as I watched them crawl up and down the wall.
After Ants in My Pants was written, I had to put my writing career on hold for many years. Life does that sometimes. I am now in a position to resume writing and am currently working on two picture books: one about a sea turtle and the other about a pelican. I hope it's only the beginning. More information to follow.
